Cultivating Connections, Celebrating Growth

Dear PACT Elementary Families:

As we enjoy the month of October, I am excited to reflect on the many ways our PACT community has already come together this school year! September was filled with opportunities to strengthen home-school partnerships, celebrate reading, support our teachers, and create meaningful learning experiences for our students. From welcoming families into our classrooms to watching students learn alongside their buddies, it has been wonderful to see our Panther pride in action.

As we continue to embrace our themes of “Unleash the Pride” and “Cultivate,” we are reminded that growth happens when we work together, nurture relationships, and create opportunities for every child to thrive. Here are a few highlights from the last month, along with a look at what is ahead!

A Big Thank-You to Our PTO!

Our PACT PTO continues to find meaningful ways to support our staff and school community. We are so thankful for the treats provided at Principal Perk-Up and for the delicious dinner and breakfast our PTO provided for staff during parent-teacher conferences. These thoughtful gestures helped our teachers feel appreciated during a particularly busy time.

This month, we look forward to the PTO's Cash Calendar fundraising initiative. Thank you to our PTO members and families for the many ways you give your time, energy, and resources to make PACT an even better place for our students and staff!

Principal Perk-Up

Our September 17 Principal Perk-Up had the highest parent attendance to date! It was a wonderful opportunity to have positive conversations about strengthening the partnership between home and school. We discussed ways families can get involved and volunteer, celebrate staff and classroom successes, and connect with one another. We also reflected on how character education is woven into all that we do at PACT.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed ideas. We are especially excited about finding more opportunities for families to build connections with one another as we continue cultivating a strong, supportive school community.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Growing Together

Teachers welcomed families on Thursday, October 1, and Friday, October 2, for parent-teacher conferences. These conversations are an important part of the partnership we are building throughout the year. They provide time to celebrate student strengths, discuss progress, identify areas for growth, and work together to determine how best to support each child's learning.

Thank you for the time and care you invest in these conversations. When families and educators share insights, ask questions, and work toward common goals, our students benefit. We look forward to continuing this two-way communication throughout the school year!

Cultivating Learning Through New Curriculum and Assessments

Our teachers have been working hard to implement new curriculum and learning opportunities in Health, Social Studies, and Character Strong. In addition, our primary-grade teachers administered a new required Oral Language assessment, while our fourth- and fifth-grade teachers transitioned from FastBridge to NWEA/MAP assessments.

These changes require thoughtful planning, flexibility, and a willingness to learn new approaches. I commend our teaching staff for their professionalism, collaboration, and continued focus on what matters most: meeting the needs of our students.

Our teachers are also using student data to make informed instructional decisions and provide meaningful opportunities for growth. On our most recent non-school Friday, teachers developed individual Student Learning Goals (SLGs) for every student in their classrooms, focusing on the goal of achieving a year's growth in a year's time. Teachers also identified specific action plans to help students reach these goals. During weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings, teachers collaborate to monitor progress, share strategies, and adjust instruction to support student success.

This is what it means to cultivate learning: knowing our students, understanding their needs, and intentionally creating the conditions for each child to grow.

Hands-On Learning and Community Generosity

Our fifth graders recently had the opportunity to bring their Life Science learning to life through a hands-on plant project!

To help students explore plant growth in a meaningful way, our fifth-grade teachers reached out to Green Valley Garden Center, which generously donated four large plants for students to take cuttings from and grow themselves. Several area Home Depot locations—Coon Rapids, Northtown, and Elk River—also donated potting soil and clay pots so students could plant their cuttings during the last week of September.

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of these local businesses! Their contributions gave our students an engaging, hands-on learning experience while reminding them that our community is invested in their growth. We cannot wait to see how their plants develop over time!

As we move further into October, I am grateful for the energy, enthusiasm, and care that our students, families, teachers, and community partners bring to PACT each day. Whether we are building relationships, strengthening reading habits, setting individual learning goals, or exploring science through hands-on experiences, we are cultivating something important together.

Thank you for being an essential part of our PACT family. Let's continue to Unleash the Pride by encouraging one another, celebrating growth, and helping every Panther feel a sense of belonging and purpose. I look forward to all the learning and joy October will continue to bring!

With Panther pride,

Dr. Lara Bronson
